Recap “Biggest Loser” Season 10, Week 11: Competing for the Final Four

December 3rd, 2010 by admin

Before the “Biggest Loser” contestants left the elimination room, Alison informed them that the red line would be back at this week’s weigh-in. This news meant the contestants had to work harder this week to make the final four.

Later, the contestants joined Alison outside where they met Nastia Liukin, a five-time Olympic medalist and four-time World Champion gymnast. For their pop challenge, the contestants performed five exercises, and the contestant who finished last in an exercise was eliminated from the challenge.

The Pop Challenge

In the first exercise, the “Biggest Loser” contestants did a mile on the Street Strider. Brendan, Mark, Patrick and Frado moved on to run half a mile. Ada took the lead early on, and she was the first to move on, followed by Brendan, Patrick and Frado.

Ada, Brendan, Patrick and Frado tackled the Rowing Machine. Brendan, Patrick and Frado were the first three to reach 1,000 meters, so they proceeded to the jump rope. The first two to get a good rhythm going and complete 100 jumps moved on, and those two were Patrick and Brendan.

Finally, Jacob’s Ladder determined the winner. The first of the two to climb 500 feet won $10,000 from Subway. Brendan won the challenge and said he would be giving $1,000 of his winnings to Warriors in Pink.

After the pop challenge and a nutritious meal from Subway, the “Biggest Loser” contestants headed to the gym for a workout with Bob and Jillian. Brendan must have still been worn out from the pop challenge, because he slacked off during the workout. Since he failed to satisfy Bob, Bob pushed him hard.

Back inside the ranch, the contestants discussed what they’d do with the $250,000 if they won “Biggest Loser.” Brendan said he’d like to start a foundation that would allow him to take kids on a college tour or to places such as Fitness Ridge. Mark stated he’d like to travel with his father, who was diagnosed with melanoma. Mark went on to say that even though his dad’s cancer-free now, he still doesn’t know how much time he has left to spend with him. Since Patrick has a new car, thanks to Ada and Brendan, he mentioned how he has a lot of credit card debt, because he had to turn to credit cards when he lost his job. Ada has the same outlook as Brendan: to start a foundation for kids. As for Frado and Elizabeth, neither of them really said what they’d do with the money if they won, but Frado reminded everyone that this season of “Biggest Loser” is about paying it forward.

Dr. H followed up with Frado. Eight weeks ago Frado was an out-of-control diabetic, but this week Dr. H said he now has his diabetes under control and was able to get rid of lots of the meds he was on.

Soon after Frado discussed his health with Dr. H, the contestants chatted with Bob and Jillian outside. The trainers wanted to talk to them about how they would continue their journey at home. They brought up the fact that many of the past contestants lost their motivation after leaving the ranch. With that in mind, Bob and Jillian gave a pep talk to ensure the remaining five would stay motivated and not fall back into old habits once they leave the “Biggest Loser” ranch.

The Physical Challenge

At the physical challenge, the contestants put all the weight they’d lost back on. With that weight slowing them down, they had to do 500 steps and run a mile. However, they were able to shed the amount of weight they’d lost throughout their seven weeks on campus. The first contestant to complete the tasks won a 1-pound advantage to use at this week’s weigh-in and a home gym valued at $25,000.

As each of the “Biggest Loser” contestants tackled the stepper and shed their weight every 100 steps, they remembered their first day on the ranch and how hard it was. Ada was the first one to reach 500 steps and move on to the 1-mile run. Brendan was next, followed by Patrick, Mark, Frado and Elizabeth. Once again, Ada dominated the competition and won the challenge — go Ada!

Last Chance Workout

During Last Chance Workout, the contestants knew they’d have to fight to stay above the red and yellow line at this week’s weigh-in. As usual, the trainers were tough on the contestants. Despite how brutal Bob and Jillian can be, the contestants realized in this week’s final Last Chance Workout how much they’re going to miss the trainers.

The Weigh-In

Ada started this week’s weigh-in.

  • Ada went from 185 pounds to 179 pounds for a total loss of 6 pounds.
  • With her 1-pound advantage, Ada’s total percentage of weight loss for this week was 3.78 percent.
  • Elizabeth went from 196 pounds to 192 pounds for a total loss of 4 pounds (2.04 percent).
  • Mark went from 299 pounds to 292 pounds for a total loss of 7 pounds (2.34 percent).
  • Patrick went from 291 pounds to 279 pounds for a total loss of 12 pounds (4.12 percent).
  • Frado went from 263 pounds to 248 pounds for a total loss of 15 pounds (5.7 percent).
  • Brendan went from 265 pounds to 260 pounds for a total loss of 5 pounds (1.89 percent).
  • Brendan fell below the red line, so he hugged everyone then headed home. Mark and Elizabeth fell below the yellow line, which meant it was up to Ada, Patrick and Brendan to decide who would be in the final four.

During elimination, Ada and Patrick voted for Mark, and that was enough to send Mark home and Elizabeth to the final four.

Update: Since leaving the “Biggest Loser” ranch and during his time at home, Mark has lost a grand total of 125 pounds.

Recap Biggest Loser Season 10, Week 10: New Looks and Big Hearts

    November 27th, 2010 by admin

The “Biggest Loser” contestants were excited as they left the ranch for their makeovers. First, they met with Ken Paves, a celebrity hair stylist and fan of the show. Ken’s fun personality made the contestants feel comfortable as he gave them all a new hairstyle. From there the contestants were outfitted in new clothes and headed to a photo shoot. Their excitement grew when they discovered they’d be on the cover of People magazine.

After the photo shoot, the contestants showed off their new looks and bodies fashion show style. They presented a look from the Warriors in Pink clothing line, and all of the “Biggest Loser” contestants looked fabulous. Soon after they exited the runway, their families surprised them. Although Ada didn’t get to show off her new look and body to her family, her friend showed up to support her.

    The Physical Challenge

Once the makeover and fashion show was over, the contestants met Alison for their physical challenge. In this week’s challenge, they had an option: stairs or trolley. If the contestants chose to hike the 30 flights of stairs, they earned five points, and the trolley only gave them one point. The first “Biggest Loser” contestant to reach 100 points won a new 2011 Ford Edge.

All of the contestants opted for the stairs, but after a few trips up and down the stairs, Elizabeth switched to the trolley, which wasn’t a surprise. Elizabeth figured she could rest with five trolley rides, and then she returned to the stairs hoping to catch up with her competitors. Meanwhile, Ada, who had been climbing the stairs for a little over 40 minutes, was in the lead with 50 points. Many of the contestants struggled after a few rounds on the stairs, but Ada continued strong, whizzing past everyone.

In the end, Ada and Brendan were tied with 95 points. However, to everyone’s surprise, when Ada and Brendan reached the top of the stairs during their last lap, they chose to take a breather before descending. While the two were resting at the top of the stairs, Patrick reached 95 points and was on his way back up the stairs for his last lap. Ada and Brendan knew Patrick was unemployed and needed a car for his family, so they both decided to wait for Patrick at the top of the stairs. As soon as Patrick made his way to the top, they hugged him and told him they were going to do the last lap with him and let him finish first, so he could have the new car. Naturally, their kindness touched Patrick and brought him to tears.

“I’ve never had a brand new car. This is something that I’ve never had, and it’s really, really special.” This is gonna change my life,” Patrick commented.

After Patrick, Ada and Brendan finished the challenge, the remaining “Biggest Loser” contestants also finished. Well, everyone except Elizabeth. Elizabeth said her legs were so worn out that she couldn’t go on, so she quit at 70 points.

Back at the ranch, the contestants told Bob and Jillian about the challenge. Elizabeth expressed how bad she felt because she couldn’t finish the challenge, and Bob told her they’d make up for it during Last Chance Workout. His plans were to have her complete the 30 steps on the Stair Stepper.

    Last Chance Workout

At Last Chance Workout, Elizabeth got started on the Stair Stepper. Bob told her she needed to do 1,800 steps, so she spent most of her Last Chance Workout on the Stair Stepper. While Elizabeth was stepping, Jillian had the remaining “Biggest Loser” contestants running on the treadmill. With a huge grin on her face, she looked toward Frado and said, “I’m going to sink my teeth into you and shake you around like a shark with a seal.” And as always, she did just as she promised and put Frado through a brutal workout. Despite the exhaustion, Frado pushed through the pain and fulfilled Jillian’s workout challenge. In addition to Frado finishing the workout challenge Jillian put him through, Elizabeth accomplished Bob’s challenge for her.

Since Patrick was only 1 pound away from losing 100 pounds total, he started the weigh-in.

  • Patrick went from 301 pounds to 291 pounds. He lost 10 pounds (3.32 percent).
  • Elizabeth went from 201 pounds to 196 pounds. She lost 5 pounds (2.49 percent).
  • Brendan went from 272 pounds to 265 pounds. He lost 7 pounds (2.57 percent).
  • Ada went from 190 pounds to 185 pounds. She lost 5 pounds (2.63 percent).
  • Mark went from 309 pounds to 299 pounds. He lost 10 pounds (3.24 percent).
  • Lisa went from 228 pounds to 228 pounds. She lost 0 pounds.
  • Frado went from 267 pounds to 263 pounds. He lost 4 pounds (1.5 percent).
  • During elimination, Brendan, Mark and Elizabeth’s vote for Lisa meant Lisa went home.

Update: Between the “Biggest Loser” ranch and her time at home, Lisa has lost a total of 89 pounds.

Recap of Biggest Loser Season 10, Week 9: Single Again

    November 20th, 2010 by admin

Last night on season 10, week 9 of the “Biggest Loser,” Alison let the contestants know they’d be competing as singles once again. After they learned this news, they headed to the gym for a workout. As expected, Bob and Jillian weren’t happy when they discovered that Aaron and Jesse went home instead of Elizabeth. Later, Bob spoke with Patrick outside and asked him what happened during the elimination. Patrick told Bob that even though he had a good relationship with Jesse, he felt Jesse and Aaron were a threat, so he had to vote them out. Bob still wasn’t satisfied with Patrick’s response, so before they went back inside the gym, Bob told Patrick he could have still won if he would have voted for Elizabeth instead of Aaron and Jesse.

    Videos from Home

Back inside the gym, Bob and Jillian had some wonderful news for the “Biggest Loser” contestants: they’d all be enjoying videos from home. Well, all but Ada. Bob pulled her aside to let her know that they tried several times to reach her family, but he said no one got back with them. He then took that moment to ask if she receives any support from her family. She said her family’s way of thinking is more like “you better have lost a 100 pounds or don’t come back” type of support. Bob just shook his head. You could see he felt sorry for her. As a way to show his support, he hugged her and told her she was a good woman and that she could do it.

The contestants gathered to watch their videos from home. A few of them were happy to see they’d inspired their loved ones to lose weight at home. Soon after they enjoyed their videos, they made a video for Ada and brought her inside to watch it with them. Ada was so touched she cried and thanked them.

If you’ll recall, Elizabeth was one of the contestants who didn’t make it to the ranch at the beginning of the “Biggest Loser”, because she collapsed during the stepper challenge and was whisked away in an ambulance. Last night, however, Jillian requested 500 steps from Elizabeth. And with everyone in the gym watching and counting, it appeared as if Elizabeth finally earned Jillian’s respect when she completed the 500 steps.

    The Physical Challenge

During the physical challenge, the “Biggest Loser” contestants stood on a beam above the pool. Their task was to balance on one foot for specified lengths of time. Whoever held their balance without falling off chose who would balance next. They begin balancing for five seconds, and most the men quickly lost balance and fell into the pool. Eventually it came down to Ada, Lisa and Mark. Since Lisa and Ada were close, Lisa couldn’t bring herself to choose Ada to balance after her, so she and Mark ended up in a balancing war. When Lisa finally fell in the pool, Ada had no choice but to compete against Mark. In the end, Mark won the challenge. His reward was a 1-pound advantage at the weigh-in.

Jillian took the contestants to Subway and asked them to make a sandwich. The contestant with the lowest calorie sandwich won a $500 Subway gift card. All the contestants made healthy sandwiches, but Lisa’s sandwich had the least amount of calories (250).

    Last Chance Workout

Once again, it was time for the Last Chance Workout. Through the majority of the workout, Bob concentrated on Elizabeth. As Elizabeth said, it appeared as if she was the only one in the gym, because he paid no attention to anyone but her. Furthermore, she didn’t get a break. Nevertheless, she did everything Bob instructed without any complaints, and her good sportsmanship showed Bob and Jillian she could do things on her own.

    The Weigh-In

Before the “Biggest Loser” contestant weigh-in, Alison let them know that whoever made it through the weigh-in and avoided elimination would get to enjoy a makeover.

  • Mark went from 317 pounds to 309 pounds. He lost 8 pounds, and with his 1-pound advantage, his total percentage of weight loss was 2.84 percent.
  • Patrick went from 311 pounds to 301 pounds. He lost 10 pounds (3.22 percent).
  • Frado went from 276 pounds to 267 pounds. He lost 9 pounds (3.26 percent).
  • Brendan went from 280 pounds to 272 pounds. He lost 8 pounds (2.86 percent).
  • Elizabeth went from 205 pounds to 201 pounds. She lost 4 pounds (1.95 percent).
  • Jessica went from 228 pounds to 228 pounds. She lost 1 pound (.44 percent).
  • Lisa went from 234 pounds to 228 pounds. She lost 6 pounds (2.56 percent).
  • Ada went from 198 pounds to 190 pounds. She lost 8 pounds (4.04 percent).
  • At the elimination, both Brendan and Frado said they’d never vote for Elizabeth, so their vote went to Jessica. Lisa also voted for Jessica, which meant three votes were enough to send Jessica home.

Update: Although Jessica didn’t make it to makeover week, she treated herself to one before heading home to her family. From her time on the “Biggest Loser” ranch to her time at home, Jessica lost a grand total of 82 pounds. She also announced that she plans to educate young children in her hometown of Tucson, AZ on eating healthy.

Biggest Loser Season 10: More Twists and a Dramatic Weigh-in

    November 12th, 2010 by admin

Last night on season 10, week 8 of the “Biggest Loser,” contestants learned they’d be competing as duos, and two instead of one contestant would go home this week. After the contestants discussed the newest twists and participated in a tough workout, they met up with Alison for dinner. Once seated at the table, the contestants secretly placed their orders from a menu. At the end of dinner, the contestant who ate the most calories selected the duo teams. Since the menus didn’t reveal the calories, the “Biggest Loser” contestants had to guess how many calories each appetizer, entrée and dessert consisted of.

    The Temptation Challenge

In the first round, most of the contestants decided to eat healthy by choosing salads. Brendan, Aaron, Frado and Elizabeth ordered the most calorie-rich appetizers. After those four contestants finished their appetizers, they moved on to entrées and continued to order and consume dishes high in calories.

After the dessert round, Alison announced that Brendan won the temptation challenge and the power to choose the duo teams, which he divided as follows:

    • Aaron and Jesse

    • Frado and Mark
    • Lisa and Elizabeth
    • Jessica and Ada
    • Brendan and Patrick

Back in the gym, Bob learned the results of the temptation challenge and discovered whom Brendan paired with whom. Afterwards, Bob ordered the “Biggest Loser” teams to resume their workout. Since Brendan ate almost 4,000 calories, Bob really tore into him.

After two and a half hours of working out, Bob sent the teams outside to resume their workout with Jillian. There was no time for a brief rest between workouts either, but the “Biggest Loser” contestants survived.

A Lesson in Sugar, and a Physical Challenge

At the physical challenge, Alison educated the contestants on how sugar is bad for them. Then after the short sugar lesson, she instructed them to gather sugar cubes, one cube at a time, from a stack of over 1,500 pounds of sugar cubes. With sugar cube in hand, they had to race across and stack the cubes until they were 5 feet in height. The first team to reach 5 feet without their stack collapsing won a weeklong trip with three guests to the “Biggest Loser” resort in Utah or Malibu, CA.

Each team had their own strategy for stacking the cubes where they wouldn’t fall. Once an hour had passed, Alison said it was time for a sugar rush. During the sugar rush, the “Biggest Loser” teams had two minutes to grab as many sugar cubes as they could using only their hands and race back to their stack with the cubes. In less than two hours, Ada and Jessica won the sugar challenge.

Once again, it was time for another “Biggest Loser” Last Chance Workout with Bob and Jillian. Jillian couldn’t see the fire in Aaron, so she sat down for a one-on-one with him. Soon after, he showed her the “fire” she was looking for. Meanwhile, Bob was determined for the girls to take the guys down at the weigh-in, so he coached them a little harder.

    The Weigh-In

It was time for another weigh-in. Usually the trainers encouraged the contestants and cheered with them to celebrate their losses, but at this week’s weigh-in, support didn’t seem to be on their minds. First, Bob and Jillian scolded Lisa for choosing to cook Elizabeth’s meals. They felt Elizabeth needed to learn how to take care of herself, but with Lisa preparing her meals, she wasn’t learning that. Then moments after Lisa and Elizabeth weighed-in, Jillian exploded! She told everyone neither Lisa nor Elizabeth really wanted to be there. Jillian was so angry with the pair that she told them if they didn’t want to be there, they should just throw the weigh-in so those who really want to be on the “Biggest Loser” ranch can stay.

    The Weigh-In Results

    • Mark went from 329 pounds to 317 pounds, and Frado went from 294 pound to 276 pounds. Together they lost a total of 30 pounds (4.82 percent).
    • Aaron went from 384 pounds to 380 pounds, and Jesse went from 296 pounds to 280 pounds. Together they lost a total of 20 pounds (2.94 percent).
    • Lisa went from 242 pounds to 234 pounds, and Elizabeth went from 213 pounds to 205 pounds. Together they lost a total of 16 pounds (3.52 percent).
    • Patrick went from 330 pounds to 311 pounds, and Brendan went from 298 pounds to 280 pounds. Together they lost a total of 37 pounds (5.89 percent).
    • Jessica went from 240 pounds to 228 pounds, and Ada went from 204 pounds to 198 pounds. Together they lost a total of 18 pounds (4.05 percent).

Jesse and Aaron as well as Lisa and Elizabeth faced elimination. Apparently, Jillian’s speech didn’t have an effect on the votes, because the majority sent Aaron and Jesse home instead of Lisa and Elizabeth. I’ll bet Jillian’s going to have something to say about that on the next episode of “Biggest Loser.” How do you think Jillian will react? Sound off in the comments area below.

Update: For the first time on the “Biggest Loser”, Bob was live from an eliminated player’s home. He spoke with Aaron about his amazing loss since leaving the ranch, and then he surprised him with a visit from Jesse. Bob complimented both guys on their amazing transformations.

Although Bob didn’t tell us how much weight Jesse and Aaron had lost, they both looked great. You could see they’d lost a great deal of weight.

Recap and Video: The Biggest Loser Season 10, Week 6: Military Style

    November 4th, 2010 by admin

The “Biggest Loser” contestants loaded into military trucks and headed to Camp Pendleton to live and train with the United States Marines for the week. While many of the others had no idea how hard training with the Marines would be, Frado knew exactly what to expect since he was a Marine.

After the contestants dressed in their military gear, which they had to do in three minutes, they loaded into helicopters that flew them to another part of the base where they joined Alison. Soon after Alison informed the contestants that her dad was stationed there, she instructed them to head to the barracks. Before they began hiking to the barracks, they each placed heavy packs on their backs.

    Marine Exercises

Early the next morning at 0500 hours, the Marines rushed the “Biggest Loser” contestants to get up and get dressed. On the contestants’ way out the door, they were each given rifles and ordered to participate in a rifle exercise. Next, they ate food that was not normally a part of their diet, and then they headed back outside for more exercises. They repeated this routine until sun down, and everything thing they did had a time limit.

The Physical Challenge: 3-Mile Obstacle Course

For their physical challenge, the contestants maneuvered through a three-mile obstacle course. As they made their way through the obstacle course, they carried a pack that contained three 10-pound weights, which they could distribute as they wished. The first team to complete the course and get their boots in the water won phone calls from home, something every Marine cherishes.

The Marines accompanied the teams and called out instructions. The teams performed tasks such as pushing a broken military truck out of the road, carrying an injured Marine to safety and various other tasks. Soon after the black team carried a Marine to safety, Elizabeth collapsed. Eventually, she recovered and vowed to finish the challenge. Although the black knew the blue team was way ahead of them and would win, they finished what they started.

Immediately after the blue team won the challenge, the Marines gave them a cell phone to call their families. Soon after their brief phone calls, they cheered as the black team finished strong.

Later, the “Biggest Loser” contestants met with Bob and Jillian in the gym at Camp Pendleton for their Last Chance Workout. Before the workout, Brendan showed off his shaved head. He wanted to fit in with the Marines, so he decided to let them shave his head.

    The Weigh-In

Following a demanding but successful Last Chance Workout, the contestants headed to the weigh-in. Before weighing in, the combat instructors complimented the contestants. Then Alison thanked the instructors for allowing the contestants to train with them as well as for their service to our country.

    Blue Team

    • Mark went from 336 pounds to 329 pounds. He lost a total of 7 pounds.
    • Jessica went from 244 pounds to 240 pounds. She lost a total of 4 pounds.
    • Lisa went from 244 pounds to 242 pounds. She lost a total of 2 pounds.
    • Jesse went from 296 pounds to 297 pounds. He gained 1 pound.
    • Aaron went from 398 pounds to 384 pounds. He lost a total of 14 pounds.

Blue team’s total weight loss: 26 pounds (1.71 percent)

    Black Team

    • Ada went from 211 pounds to 204 pounds. She lost a total of 7 pounds.
    • Patrick went from 337 pounds to 330 pounds. He lost a total of 7 pounds.
    • Brendan went from 302 pounds to 298 pounds. He lost a total of 4 pounds.
    • Anna went from 283 pounds to 281 pounds. She lost a total of 2 pounds.
    • Elizabeth went from 213 pounds to 214 pounds. She gained 1 pound.
    • Frado went from 294 pounds to 298 pounds. He gained 4 pounds.

Black team’s total weight loss: 15 pounds (.91 percent)

Obviously, the weigh-in didn’t go well. Bob and Jillian said the change of diet was probably the factor. Since the black team lost the weigh-in, they had to send one of their team members home, and this week that member was Anna.

Update: Since leaving the “Biggest Loser” ranch, Anna’s lost a total of 80 pounds. She said she’s eating prepared meals at home instead of the fast food that she use to eat, and she even inspired her co-workers to live a more active lifestyle.

Recap and Video, Biggest Loser Season 10: Depending on One

    October 28th, 2010 by admin

Last night on Season 10, Week 5 of the Biggest Loser, Alison told the contestants that only one person’s weight from each team would count at this week’s weigh-in. She said it would be up to the opposing team to decide whose weight would count. Moreover, neither team would know whose weight was going to count until the weigh-in.

Since Jesse lost quite a bit of weight at last week’s weigh-in, he felt like the other team might choose him to weigh in for his team this week, because he said they probably think he won’t put up such a big number this week. In addition to feeling like a target, he also thought they might go after Jessica. With this on his mind, he rose from bed early, woke Jessica, and the two of them headed to the gym for an early workout.

    At the Gym

Later, Jillian and Bob had both their teams in the gym working out. With this week’s weigh-in twist, the trainers wanted to make sure everyone on their team got a good workout, but Jillian felt Elizabeth might be a target since her numbers have been consistently low, so she kept a close eye on her. As expected, Elizabeth stopped her treadmill sprint while her teammates continued. Jillian repeatedly ordered Elizabeth to continue running, but Elizabeth didn’t comply. After a bit more coaching, Elizabeth finally returned to sprinting.

Soon after Elizabeth resumed her workout, Frado quit and walked out of the gym. Jillian went outside where Frado wandered around, but instead of approaching him, she just shook her head then went back inside to help the members of her team who were interested in helping themselves.

Eventually, Frado went back inside and apologized to Jillian for disrespecting her. She sat him down for a brief chat, and he confessed that he doesn’t get along with is father. Basically, Frado said they don’t get along because they’re both “thickheaded.”

    Meeting with Celebrity Chefs

Soon after their morning workout, the “Biggest Loser” contestants met with Alison at the Four Seasons. Alison told them since only one person’s weight would count at this week’s weigh-in, they’d need a little help, so she introduced them to chefs Curtis Stone and Lorena Garcia. Naturally, the contestants were excited to see the celebrity chefs, and it’s no surprise they expected for the chefs to prepare a healthy meal for them. However, Alison told them instead of the chefs cooking, Aaron, Jessica, Lisa, Elizabeth, Patrick and Anna would have 40 minutes to prepare an appetizer, entrée and dessert with chefs Stone and Garcia, but the chefs would only supervise. As for the remaining six contestants, they would judge the dishes, but they wouldn’t know which team’s dish they tasted. Furthermore, the team with the best overall meal would win 10 seconds at this week’s challenge. 10 seconds was all Alison would reveal about the advantage, but she did tell them they would need every single second.

With that, the teams headed to the kitchen to prepare the meals. Chef Stone worked with the blue team and Chef Garcia assisted the black team. Although the chefs couldn’t touch any of the food or prep tools, they were allowed to help the contestants and give them advice. While that sounded easy enough, it’s natural for the chefs to want to cook, so they both struggled not to touch the food.

    Judging the Cuisine

After 40 minutes, the “Biggest Loser” contestants managed to finish their dishes. They watched while the other six contestants tasted and judged the dishes. Frado and Adam judged the appetizers: Aaron’s Grilled Shrimp, Papaya and Peanut Salad and Anna’s Shrimp Ceviche Martini; Ada and Mark judged the entrées: Jessica’s Grilled Tuna Ratatouille and Patrick’s Chargrilled Tuna Tacos; and finally, Jesse and Brendan judged the desserts: Elizabeth’s Vanilla Peach Cups and Lisa’s Grilled Peaches With Raspberry Yogurt Sauce. Ultimately, it came down to a tie. In order to break the tie, the judges had to guess how many calories were in their team’s dessert. The black team couldn’t agree on a calorie count and argued before guessing 185. The blue team, on the other hand, reached a peaceful agreement of 109 calories, which was only nine calories off, so the blue team won the cooking challenge.

Back at the ranch, the teams discussed which team members they should choose to weigh-in. Because Elizabeth’s been having a hard time losing weight, the blue team contemplated choosing her to weigh-in for the black team. The black team appeared to be using the same strategy as they discussed choosing Jessica to weigh-in for the blue team, since, like Elizabeth, her weigh-in numbers have been low.

    The Dragon Boat Challenge

For their physical challenge, the “Biggest Loser” contestants participated in a dragon boat race. Because the blue team won the cooking challenge, they were given a 10 second head start. Although the blue team had a head start, they veered off course but managed to regain control and catch up with the black team. Both teams were neck in neck headed toward the finish line. When the blue team began to paddle harder, they glided right on past the black team and won the challenge. Their prize: the option to block the black team’s first weigh-in choice.

    Last Chance Workout

During Last Chance Workout, Jillian suspected the blue team was probably going to choose Elizabeth to weigh-in for the black team. Knowing this, Jillian worked Elizabeth harder than the rest of the black team members, and as usual, Elizabeth continued to start and stop throughout the workout. Meanwhile, Bob worked equally with his team.

At the weigh-in, once again Adam chose not to use his advantage. Next, the teams revealed their weigh-in pick: the blue team chose Elizabeth and the black team picked Jessica. Because Jessica told her team she felt confident, the blue team chose not to block the black team’s pick. With that, it was time to weigh in.

    Black Team

    • Brendan went from 315 pounds to 313 pounds. His total weight loss was 2 pounds.
    • Anna went from 286 pounds to 283 pounds. Her total weight loss was 3 pounds.
    • Ada went from 215 pounds to 211 pounds. Her total weight loss was 4 pounds.
    • Brendan went from 313 pounds to 302 pounds. His total weight loss was 11
      pounds.
    • Patrick went from 346 pounds to 337 pounds. His total weight loss was 9 pounds.
    • Frado went from 308 pounds to 294 pounds. His total weight loss was 14 pounds.
    • Elizabeth, who weighed in for her team, went from 218 pounds to 213 pounds. Her total weight loss was 5 pounds (2.29 percent).

    Blue Team

    • Jesse went from 305 pounds to 296 pounds. His total weight loss was 9 pounds.
    • Mark went from 252 pounds to 336 pounds. His total weight loss was 16 pounds.
    • Adam went from 335 pounds to 322 pounds. His total weight loss was 13 pounds.
    • Lisa went from 252 pounds to 244 pounds. Her total weight loss was 8 pounds.
    • Aaron went from 407 pounds to 398 pounds. His total weight loss was 9 pounds.
    • Jessica, who weighed in for her team, went from 248 pounds to 244 pounds. Her total weight loss was 4 pounds (1.61 percent).

    Sending Someone Home

After the weigh-in, the blue team probably regretted letting the black team’s weigh-in choice remain as it was. Nevertheless, there was nothing they could do about it, so they headed back inside to discuss whom to send home. Some thought Adam would be successful continuing his journey at home and others wanted Jessica to go home since she was the reason they lost the weigh-in. During elimination, they were still undecided on who to send home, so the vote ended up in a tie. The black team was called in to break the tie, and their choice was Adam.

Update: Since leaving the “Biggest Loser” ranch, Adam has lost an astonishing 138 pounds!

Recap & Video: Biggest Loser Season 10: Black Vs. Blue

    October 21st, 2010 by admin

Moments after Burgandy’s elimination, Alison introduced the “Biggest Loser” contestants to the five hopefuls who didn’t make it to the ranch at the beginning of the season. Those five were given another chance to earn a spot on the ranch with the current contestants, but instead of a challenge, they weighed in to determine who would get to join the current “Biggest Loser” contestants on the ranch. Only the hopeful with the highest percentage of weight loss got to stay on the ranch — the others, once again, returned home.

    • Corey went from 391 pounds to 354 pounds. While at home, he lost a total of 37 pounds (9.46 percent).
    • Shanna went from 242 pounds to 221 pounds. Her total weight loss was 21 pounds (8.68 percent).
    • Montina went from 287 pounds to 270 pounds. Her total weight loss was 17 pounds (5.92 percent).
    • Sandy went from 259 pounds to 234 pounds. Her total weight loss was 25 pounds (9.65 percent).
    • Anna went from 330 pounds to 291 pounds. Her total weight loss was 39 pounds (11.82 percent).

With the highest percentage of weight lost, Anna joined the other “Biggest Loser” contestants. However, in another surprise twist, Alison announced that there would be a black and blue team, and Anna was to determine the teams. Jillian would train the black team, and Bob would be the trainer for the blue team.

Before Anna chose the teams, Alison also revealed that one “Biggest Loser” contestant wouldn’t be a part of a team. Instead, that contestant would have immunity and join this week’s losing team after elimination.

The Blue and the Black Teams

After a short discussion with her new teammates, Anna decided on the teams: Aaron, Adam, Jesse, Jessica, Lisa and Mark were the blue team, and Frado, Brendan, Ada, Elizabeth, Rick and Anna were the black team. Everyone seemed happy with Anna’s choices, but some of them wondered why she gave immunity to Patrick instead of keeping it for herself.

In the gym, Jillian asked Anna why she didn’t choose immunity. Anna told her she didn’t want to risk losing her as a trainer. “I started it with you, and I wanted to finish it,” Anna added. That touched Jillian so much that Jillian said it would be hard to be mean to Anna after that heartfelt statement.

As both teams and Patrick worked out, Anna reached a point when she told Jillian she failed. Jillian knew Anna had things to work out mentally as well as physically, so she took Anna aside for a heart-to-heart. Anna told Jillian she felt like she’s failed herself and her 3-year-old son whom she lost to cancer.

    Strategizing the Elimination Vote

Back inside the ranch, both teams believed Patrick would be a prize to have on their team. That said, the black team strategized about voting Anna off just so they could have Patrick on their team. Patrick couldn’t help but think Anna made a huge mistake by not taking immunity.

Later, the team met with Alison for their first team challenge. During the challenge, each team visited five food stations in downtown Las Angeles. While at the food stations, a member from each team answered a trivia question about the food at that station. Before answering the questions, the “Biggest Loser” contestants could ask as many questions as they wanted. If their teammate answered the question correctly, they earned a green card with directions to the next food station, but if their teammate gave the wrong answer, they received a red penalty card with a physical challenge that the teammate who answered incorrectly had to complete before his or her team moved on. The prize for winning the challenge: Each member of the winning team received 40 weeks worth of meals from the “Biggest Loser” meal plan as well as letters from home.

Since Patrick wasn’t on a team yet, he watched from the sidelines with Alison, and, of course, he would receive a letter from home. With that, the race began. The first member of the blue team guessed incorrectly and had to perform 50 step-ups on the stairs. As for the black team, they answered correctly, so they received the green card and headed to the next food station. The black team was on a roll and felling confident. Meanwhile, the blue team continued their losing streak, so the challenges caused them to fall behind.

Eventually, both teams caught up with one another at the last food station. When their teammates guessed the wrong amount of calories, both teams had to climb 21 flights of stairs. In the end, the black team completed the stair challenge before the blue team and won the meal plan and letters from home. When the blue team finally made it to top and joined the black team, Alison and Patrick, the black team comforted them as they grieved over losing and not getting their letters from home. Brendan felt so bad for Lisa that he gave up the letters from his mom and dad so she could have the letters from her kids. Four more black team members also gave up their letters to a blue team member.

    Last Chance Workout

During Last Chance Workout, Jillian discovered that her team planned to throw the weigh-in in order to vote Anna out and get Patrick. In an attempt to avert the black team’s devious plan, Jillian approached Frado and Brendan and asked them not to throw the weigh-in. Then she requested they advise the rest of the black team not to throw the weigh-in either. In front of Jillian, Frado and Brendan called their teammates outside and told them all not to throw the weigh-in.

At the weigh-in, Alison told Adam if he decided to use his advantage at this week’s weigh-in, his team would have a 2-pound advantage, and if he chose not to use it, next week they could have a 3-pound advantage. Adam opted not to use his advantage.

Since Patrick had immunity and was not yet part of a team, he weighed in first.

    The Weigh-In

Patrick went from 356 pounds to 346 pounds. He lost a total of 10 pounds.

    Blue Team

    • Jessica went from 254 pounds to 248 pounds. Her total weight loss was 6 pounds.
    • Mark went from 361 pounds to 352 pounds. His total weight loss was 9 pounds.
    • Lisa went from 260 pounds to 252 pounds. Her total weight loss was 8 pounds.
    • Adam went from 346 pounds to 335 pounds. His total weight loss was 11 pounds.
    • Aaron went from 419 pounds to 407 pounds. His total weight loss was 12 pounds.
    • Jesse went from 321 pounds to 305 pounds. His total weight loss was 16 pounds.

Blue team’s total weight loss: 62 pounds (3.16 percent).

    Black Team

    • Anna went from 291 pounds to 286 pounds. Her total weight loss was 5 pounds.
    • Elizabeth went from 223 pounds to 218 pounds. Her total weight loss was 5 pounds.
    • Frado went from 317 pounds to 308 pounds. His total weight loss was 9 pounds.
    • Ada went from 224 pounds to 215 pounds. Her total weight loss was 9 pounds.
    • Rick went from 297 pounds to 287 pounds. His total weight loss was 10 pounds.
    • Brendan went from 315 pounds to 313 pounds. His total weight loss was 2 pounds.

Black team’s total weight loss: 40 pounds (2.4 percent).

The black team went back inside the “Biggest Loser” ranch to discuss whom they should vote out. Since Ada had the highest percentage of weight loss on the black team, she was safe. Brendan swore on his Goddaughter’s life that he didn’t throw the weigh-in, and the others stated that they all wanted to stay on the ranch.

Despite earlier talk of sending Anna home, not a single black team member wrote her name down last night. Instead, the votes were between Elizabeth and Rick, and the majority voted to send Rick home.

Update: Since leaving the “Biggest Loser” ranch, Rick has lost 120 pounds.

Biggest Loser Season 10, Week 4: The Ultimate Prize

    October 15th, 2010 by admin

The “Biggest Loser” contestants joined Alison outside. When they saw the shelves of cupcakes, they knew what was ahead: Their first temptation challenge. Before Alison explained the challenge, she told the contestants that in addition to the yellow line, there would be a red line this week, which meant two of them would go home. As in previous seasons, the contestant with the lowest percentage of weight loss at the weigh-in would fall below the red line and be forced to leave the ranch immediately.

    The Temptation Challenge

For the temptation challenge, the contestants had to eat cupcakes in search of a prize that could guarantee them a spot in the final four. Underneath one cupcake was a 1-pound advantage, which the winner could use at the weigh-in or hold on to it to use in an upcoming weigh-in. If the winner chose to hold on to the advantage, it would continue to grow. In other words, if they decide to keep it for eight weeks, then it would give them an 8-pound advantage. After the contestant ate a cupcake, he or she earned the opportunity to view a clue. From there they could continue eating cupcakes for clues.

Rick, Adam, Elizabeth and Jesse participated in the temptation challenge while the remaining “Biggest Loser” contestants who chose to set out watched their competitors pack on the calories.

The first clue exposed the location of the prize cupcake, the second clue told which side of the shelf the cupcake was on, the third clue told the color of the cupcake, and the final clue revealed that the cupcake had a raspberry on top, which narrowed the choice down to two cupcakes on the bottom shelf. Although Adam didn’t see the fourth clue, he spotted Rick heading toward cupcake, after Rick read the fourth clue, and Adam managed to beat Rick to the cupcake and won the temptation challenge.

    100 Calorie Cupcakes

Subsequent to the temptation challenge, Chef Curtis Stone showed the
“Biggest Loser” contestants how to make 100-calorie cupcakes. But before he showed the contestants how to make his version of the cupcakes, he told them that some of his 100-calorie cupcakes were included in the cupcake challenge. He went on to say that the cupcakes that weren’t his contained over 500 calories.

After a brief low calorie baking lesson with Chef Stone, the contestants began talking about the prize Adam had won, and that’s when Adam regretted participating in the temptation challenge for a prize that put a target on his back. He realized the first time he falls below the yellow line and loses the elimination challenge, his competitors will vote him out, if she’s still holding the advantage.

The Gym With Bob & Jillian

Following a surprisingly calm discussion with Bob and Jillian about the temptation challenge, the “Biggest Loser” contestants headed to the gym. As each of them worked out, Bob and Jillian reminded them of the red line to keep them motivated. Bob even reminded Adam about the target on his back, and that pushed Adam to work harder.

Even though Elizabeth feared the red line, halfway through her workout she told Jillian she couldn’t breathe. Jillian noticed that Elizabeth consistently uses her asthma as a “scape goat” in all her workouts.

“I’ve been at this long enough to know that asthma isn’t really the thing that’s holding Elizabeth back,” Jillian commented.

Jillian was able to get Elizabeth to admit what’s really holding her back is her inability to deal with her emotions. Afterward, Elizabeth continued her workout without clenching at her chest and struggling to breathe.

While Mark was giving it his all on the rowing machine, the straps flew out of his hands as he screamed out in pain. Apparently, he hurt his back, and this halted his entire workout. Because Mark couldn’t continue, he worried that it might affect him at the weigh-in.

    The Weigh In

The “Biggest Loser” contestants headed to the weigh-in with hopes that they’d avoid the red line, which they dreaded more than the yellow line this week. However, before Alison started the weigh-in, she had to see if Adam was going to use his 1-pound advantage. Adam chose not to use his advantage this week. With that, Mark began the weigh-in.

    • Mark went from 369 pounds to 361 pounds. He lost a total of 8 pounds (2.17 percent).
    • Elizabeth went from 229 pounds to 223 pounds. She lost a total of 6
      pounds (2.62 percent).
    • Patrick went from 366 pounds to 356 pounds. He lost a total of 10 pounds (2.73 percent).
    • Lisa went from 267 pounds to 260 pounds. She lost a total of 7 pounds (2.63 percent).
    • Aaron went from 431 pounds to 419 pounds. He lost a total of 12 pounds (2.78 percent).
    • Rick went from 306 pounds to 297 pounds. He lost a total of 9 pounds (2.94 percent).
    • Jesse went from 329 pounds to 321 pounds. He lost a total of 8 pounds (2.43 percent).
    • Burgandy went from 218 pounds to 213 pounds. She lost a total of 5 pounds (2.29 percent).
    • Ada continued her lucky streak when she went from 234 pounds to 224 pounds. She lost a total of 10 pounds (4.27 percent).
    • Jessica went from 261 pounds to 254 pounds. She lost a total of 7 pounds (2.68 percent).
    • Brendan went from 326 pounds to 315 pounds. He lost a total of 11 pounds (3.37 percent).
    • Frado went from 337 pounds to 317 pounds. He lost a total of 20 pounds (5.93 percent).
    • Adam went from 356 pounds to 346 pounds. He lost a total of 10 pounds (2.81 percent).
    • Sophia went from 252 pounds to 250 pounds. She lost a total of 2 pounds (.79 percent). Despite all her hard work in the gym, she fell below the red line.

    Behind the Scenes

Soon after Sophia bid her goodbyes, the “Biggest Loser” contestants headed to the gym. Jillian informed us that the weigh-ins are actually longer than they show on TV. She said the reason is because the cameramen are always moving around and readjusting the cameras for better shots. She went on to say that while that’s going on, the contestants and trainers talk back and forth — again, this is what we don’t see. However, they did show a clip of Ada telling Jillian she hadn’t had a breakthrough yet. This, of course, infuriated Jillian, because everyone’s seen Ada lose quite a bit of weight at the weigh-ins, and Jillian said Ada doesn’t seem to give herself the credit she deserves. Nevertheless, Jillian told Ada if a breakthrough is what she wants, then she’ll give it to her in the gym.

    Back at the Gym

Jillian kept her word and really worked Ada over. Ada quickly tired out and told Jillian she got the lesson, but Jillian didn’t let up until Ada left the gym. Determined to find out what Ada was holding back, Jillian followed her outside. Ada told Jillian her brother drowned in a kiddie pool when she was two. She said her parents went inside to get towels and left her in the pool with her brother. She went on to say she felt her parents blamed her for his death, because they’ve harassed her about her weight and constantly asked her why it couldn’t have been her that died that day. Because of the emotional abuse Ada’s endured, she’s not been able to be happy with herself or her accomplishments.

    A Vegan Dinner with Bob

Back in the gym, Bob invited the “Biggest Loser” contestants who fell below the yellow line to his house for a meal. They graciously accepted and flew to Bob’s home. He complimented them on how nice they all looked, and then they asked to see what he had in his fridge. I think they expected him to have a fridge full of unhealthy options, but to their surprise, all he had was a Brita filter, watermelon and a few other fruits and veggies.

The meal the contestants shared with Bob was vegan. Bob said that’s how he always eats, and then he confessed that a friend of his prepared the meal. The contestants commented on how colorful the dishes were, and Bob took that moment to share a “big” tip: “Have color on your plate when you’re eating.” He stated that the color is where all the nutrients are.

Back at the ranch, Burgandy saw Dr. H about the trouble she’s been having with her leg. Dr. H told her she needed to mobilize the tendon, so he put her in a boot and ordered her not to partake in the challenge.

“What about the yellow line? Will I be safe from elimination?” Burgandy asked.

“I don’t take care of the yellow line. I’m a doctor. We have to look at the price, and the long term price is your health,” Dr. H replied.

All of the “Biggest Loser” contestants gathered around for the elimination challenge. Before heading to the challenge, Mark told Frado his back felt better, and he was certain he could do the challenge without difficulty. That being the case, Mark advised Frado to save someone else. Before Frado announced his choice, he told Alison he decided to lower the yellow line to eight, and because Jessica came in below the line by half a pound, he decided to save her.

    Elimination

The contestants who fell below the line had to unroll 300 feet of carpet weighing more than 900 pounds. Since Burgandy couldn’t compete, she had no choice but to face elimination. Therefore, the last of the four contestants to unroll their carpet and race to the finish line, would join Burgandy in the elimination room.

Mark gave his carpet one big push, and he was on his way without much struggle. He was the first to finish the race. Next was Jesse, followed by Lisa, and Elizabeth finished last. In the end, Burgandy received the majority of the votes, so she said her goodbyes and headed home.

At-home update: Sophia reported a total weight loss of 47 pounds since leaving the “Biggest Loser” ranch. As for Burgandy, she has lost 51 pounds.

Biggest Loser Season 10, Week 3: Second Thoughts

    October 8th, 2010 by admin

Last week on “Biggest Loser,” Tina pleaded with her competitors to keep
her on the ranch over Allie, but this week she announced she wanted
to go home. This upset her competitors, of course, because they believed
it was unfair to Allie. When they asked Tina what her reason was for
wanting to leave the ranch, she told them that before she left home, she
withdrew $1,600 from her 401k and would really like to treat her family
to a vacation. They didn’t accept that excuse. In fact, it only annoyed
them more. Then, feeling sorry for Allie, Lisa stated that she lives 10
miles from Allie and should go home just to help Allie.

Bob came in and learned about Tina’s surprising announcement, and he
didn’t like what he heard either, so after a brief pep talk, he told the
“Biggest Loser” contestants they needed to focus in the gym.

At the gym, Bob really pushed the contestants to the extreme. He pushed
so hard that Jesse got an attitude with him. Jesse’s attitude angered
Bob, and as a result, Bob punished everyone. Jesse, of course,
apologized to his competitors, and he felt bad for being so
    disrespectful to Bob.

    Meeting Anna Kournikova

At the fitness challenge, Alison met the “Biggest Loser” contestants on
a tennis court and introduced them to tennis superstar Anna Kournikova.
The contestants spent some time on the court with Kournikova.

Soon after a tennis lesson with Kournikova, the contestants gathered
tennis balls that were scattered about the court. The object was to fill
their competitors’ tall plastic tubes with the tennis balls, in hopes of
knocking their competitors out. The contestant left standing would win
    immunity.

The first target was Tina. After Brendan knocked Tina out, more
followed. Ultimately, it came down to Frado and Brendan, and Frado won
the challenge and immunity. Subsequent to Frado’s victory, Alison
surprised the “Biggest Loser” contestants with news that they’d be
    weighing in the next day.

    Weigh-In Results

At weigh-in, again half of the contestants would fall below the yellow
line. Like last week, those seven contestants would participate in an
    elimination challenge.

    • Frado went from 340 pounds to 337 pounds. His total weight loss was 3 pounds (.88 percent). Luckily, Frado won immunity at the fitness challenge.
    • Burgandy went from 219 pounds to 218 pounds. Her total weight loss was 1 pound (.46 percent).
    • Tina went from 247 pounds to 243 pounds. Her total weight loss was 4 pounds (1.62 percent).
    • Sophia went from 258 pounds to 252 pounds. Her total weight loss was 6 pounds (2.33 percent).
    • Ada went from 240 pounds to 234 pounds. Her total weight loss was 6 pounds (2.33 percent).
    • Lisa went from 272 pounds to 267 pounds. Her total weight loss was 5 pounds (1.84 percent).
    • Aaron went from 438 pounds to 431 pounds. His total weight loss was 7 pounds (1.60 percent).
    • Adam went from 368 pounds to 356 pounds. His total weight loss was 12 pounds (3.26 percent).
    • Elizabeth went from 232 pounds to 229 pounds. Her total weight loss was 3 pounds (1.29 percent).
    • Rick went from 314 pounds to 306 pounds. His total weight loss was 8 pounds (2.55 percent).
    • Mark went from 380 pounds to 369 pounds. His total weight loss was 11 pounds (2.89 percent).
    • Jessica went from 368 pounds to 261 pounds. Her total weight loss was 7 pounds (2.61 percent).
    • Jesse went from 339 pounds to 329 pounds. His total weight loss was 10 pounds (2.95 percent).
    • Patrick went from 378 pounds to 366 pounds. His total weight loss was 12 pounds (3.17 percent).
    • Brendan went from 331 pounds to 326 pounds. His total weight loss was 5 pounds (1.51 percent).

Adam had the highest percentage of weight loss this week; therefore, he
won the privilege of saving one of the contestants who fell below the
yellow line. Each of the seven pleaded their cases to Adam, and then
they headed to the gym for a workout.

    The Elimination Challenge

At the elimination challenge, Adam told Alison he chose to save Aaron.
Then the remaining “Biggest Loser” contestants who fell below the line
gave it their all to save themselves from the elimination room. To do
that, they dug through 175 tons of sand in search of a brass ring. As
soon as someone discovered the ring, they were safe and the others
continued on to another sand pile in hopes that they’d be the one to
find the next ring. This continued until only two were left without a
    ring.

In the end, Tina and Lisa failed to find a ring, so they headed to the
elimination room to see which one of them would go home. The seven
“Biggest Loser” contestants who voted remembered Tina saying she wanted
to go home, which they stated before revealing their votes that sent
    Tina packing.

Since leaving the “Biggest Loser” ranch, Tina reported a total weight
loss of 60 pounds. Furthermore, she decided to continue the
pay-it-forward theme at home by helping her daughter. With Tina’s
support, her daughter lost 85 pounds.
