Proper skin care regimen will help to slow down the aging process. Knowing what type of skin you have and how to apply skin care products correctly is important. If one applies the wrong products and methods, one will end up doing more damage than harm.

Use the following guidelines to establish whether you have an oily, sensitive, combination, dry or sun damaged skin:

  1. Wash the facial area.
  2. Dry your face with a gentle patting action.
  3. Press tissues normally used for the cleansing of lenses on various spots of the facial area.
  4. Check the tissues for oiliness. Oiliness will also result in stickiness of the tissue on the face, indicating and oily skin type. No sticking or oily spots indicate dryer skin. Also, note which areas the tissue does stick to. If it sticks on the forehead, the nasal area and the chin, it indicates a combination type. Oiliness is also indicated by blackheads.

At Bay Harbour Med Spa ( est. 1987)  the European trained skin care specialists suggest one gets a proper cleansing facial once every 4 to 6 weeks. Furthermore, it is recommended that one should have the appropriate type of organic products mixed for your exact skin care type/issue. This is another service offered by Bay Harbour Med Spa.

The following steps are the building blocks of a proper cleansing facial

  1. Cleansing of the face, neck and decolte.
  2. Exfoliation ( a natural product should always be used)
  3. Massage to stimulate circulation
  4. Steam to open up the pores
  5. Extraction ( cleansing of commodones or white heads)
  6. Medicated toner to disinfect the treated areas
  7. Custom mask mixed of various fruit/vegetable extracts should be applied for a minimum of 15 minutes.
  8. Application of a skin type appropriate moisturizer.
